Police alleged that the defendant allegedly forged the container terminal documents belonging to Kachcare Resources Limited and used them to steal three empty containers belonging to CMA Shipping Company located at Amuwo Odofin area of Lagos.
Police alleged that trouble started for the defendants when the first defendant stole the containers and sold them to the second defendant and escaped.
Police further alleged that following the incident, the management of CMA Shipping Company petitioned the Assistant Inspector General of Police, AIG in charge of Zone 2 Command, Lagos about the matter who swiftly directed his crack team to fish out the fleeing suspects.
The Police swung into action and arrested Egbuibe through tracking at a hideout in Lagos.
Police Prosecuting Counsel, ASP Francis Igbinosa informed the Court in the charge Marked E/9/2023 that the defendants committed the offence between 13 August, 10 and 19 September 2022 at plot 93, block C, Amuwo Odofin Commercial LA 25, around the premises of Kachcare Resources Limited Container Terminal.
Igbinosa told the Court that the first defendant Egbuibe forged the documents belonging to Kachcare Resources Limited and used them to steal three empty containers valued at $9,660 belonging to CMA Shipping Company and sold them to the second defendant.
He said the offences, the defendants committed were punishable under sessions 411,287(5)(b)(a)(b), 365(2)(b) and 328(7)(2)(b) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges and their Counsels, P.N Mpamugo and Mr Anayo Agbo prayed the Court to grant the defendants bail in the most liberal terms insisting that the defendants are responsible citizens and would not jump bail if granted.
The Presiding Magistrate granted them N5m bail each with two sureties each in like sum and adjourned the case till 27 April 2023 for mention.
