Group lauds Nigeria's code of ethics to regulate digital space

An NGO, United Way Greater Nigeria (UWGN), has trained 43 young people in digital skills to close the unemployment and underemployment gap among young Nigerians.

Programme Manager, UWGN, Mr Olayemi Fasakin, expressed the hope that they would use the training to meet the growing demand for digital skills.

Fasakin noted that the training labelled: ‘Skills for Employment Program (STEP)’, was part of the organization’s humanitarian initiatives, aimed at improving the official stability of people in various communities.

He said that UWGN’s intervention focused on people’s health, education and official stability to bring about meaningful development for Nigerians and their communities.

According to him, the STEP program, aimed at beneficiaries from 18 to 30 years old, had 24 women and 19 men graduates.

Fasakin said the training took place over three months, including a four-week internship, adding that participants received training in digital marketing, front-end web development and graphic design.

“A total of 27 of the participants trained as digital marketers, eight as front-end web developers, and the remaining eight as graphic designers.

“With the training, I think that young people should be able to stand up for themselves and also impact their knowledge on others,” he said.

Fasakin commended all the implementing partners involved in the success of the program in driving social impact in the lives of young people.

According to him, the supporting partners are Nerdy Eye, WAVE Academies, Educate Nigeria, The Workplace Centre, JASS Academy and Sweet Sensation.

Fasakin said the UWGN would expand the program’s subsequent cohorts to reach more youth, emphasizing that donors were being identified for that purpose. (NAN)
