Nigeria's economic diversification drive successful, says Emefiele

The Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Godwin Emefiele has said the Federal Government’s efforts to diversify the economy from oil to the agricultural Sector have achieved maximum success in the last six years.

Mr Emefiele stated during the inauguration of the multi-billion naira Gerawa Rice Mills in Kano.

He described the establishment of the rice mill as a testimony of the fact that some prominent Nigerians were in full support of the Federal Government’s local rice production initiatives aimed at discouraging the importation of foreign ones.

The CBN Governor Maintained that Federal Government had placed a high premium on the production of local rice as a major catalyst for speedy economic growth being part of the revolutionary stride effected by the Buhari administration.

He stressed that his administration had placed a high premium on agriculture enshrined in the budget of the State every year.

The Governor said the agitation for entrenching the quest for a sustainable food security system could only be feasible and realistic when leaders support private sector initiatives for the government.

He pointed out that the good example of the establishment of the Gerawa rice mill and others currently operating in the State would serve as an inspiration to notable entrepreneurs.
