FG to include entrepreneur skills in school curriculum

The federal government has reaffirmed its determination in capacity building of primary and secondary school teachers in entrepreneurship development with the aim of inculcating entrepreneurship to pupils and students geared towards making them self-reliant.

Director-General, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN) Dr Umaru Dikko Radda who stated this at the opening ceremony of the two-day Capacity Building for Entrepreneurship Teachers under the Mind Shift programme held in Kano, attributed the increase of crime in the society to lack of unemployment among youths, explaining that the scheme was meant to unleash the innate wealth-creating potential of children by exploring the vast opportunities that abound in their respective Communities.

Dr Radda noted that other states to benefit from the scheme this year include; Kano, Zamfara, Plateau, Niger, Taraba, Gombe, Oyo, Osun, Enugu, Abia, Rivers and Bayelsa.

Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, represented by the Commissioner for Education Alhaji Mohammad Sanusi Kiru applauded the foresight and commitment of the Federal Government for initiating the scheme and highlighted the Kano State Government’s efforts on creating job opportunities through entrepreneurship, saying a modern skills acquisition centre has been established where thousands of youths would be trained on different entrepreneur skills.

The Commissioner further directed all principals and headteachers of public primary and secondary schools In the state to established entrepreneur clubs in their schools.
