Lyon defeated Manchester City in Portugal on Saturday evening to qualify for the UEFA Champions League (UCL) semifinal since 2009-10 season.
The qualification means the semifinal of the UCL will be featuring two German sides; Leipzig and Bayern, on one hand, and the two French sides; Paris Saint Germain and Olympique Lyonnais, on the other hand.
The two countries ably represented in the semifinals have been deprived of the trophy for years as France last won the UCL by Marseille in 1992-93 season and Germany, by Bayern, won in 2012-2013.
The UCL has been dominated by Spain, Italy, and England, with all three countries out of the tournament this season.
Lyon eliminated Manchester City 3-1 after super-sub, Moussa Dembele tucked two goals into the net to place Lyon comfortable in the game, Raheem Sterling came close to leveling it when he had a free post to shoot at, and he magically shoots over the post.
Bayern knocked out Barcelona in an embarrassing manner 8-2 and Leipzig eliminated Atletico Madrid with late minute goal from Tyler Adams.
The next round of matches makes a possibility of a French-dominated, German-dominated, or both countries properly represented final, in the UEFA Champions League.
