LASG shuts shops on Martins Street for safety violations

One of the sealed shops

The Director-General of the Safety Commission, Lanre Mojola, disclosed that the two lock-up shops were sealed following a petition from a concerned member of the public alleging that the shops violated safety rules and regulations.

According to him, the Commission has a mandate to ensure the safety of lives and property in Lagos State.

He stated that the two shops were sealed in response to the petition received by the Commission from a concerned resident about a transformer located directly in front of the shops at No. 148, Broad Street, Marina, Lagos.

Preliminary investigations revealed that a transformer was installed directly in front of the two shops.

The barricade on the transformer is touching the wall of the building, coupled with a gas generator situated close to the transformer, which poses a high risk and unsafe act to the people and the environment, as this may lead to another fire outbreak.

He implored members of the public to support the government’s zero-tolerance policy against violations of safety rules and regulations.

He emphasized that safety is the collective responsibility of all and urged members of the public to report unsafe practices or infractions to 0700SAFETY.
