Barrister Aloy Ejimakor, Special Counsel for Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has reacted to the revelation made by Femi Adesina, a former presidential aide that then-President Muhammadu Buhari said his government could have assassinated the IPOB leader but opted for his rendition.

SaharaReporters on Sunday reported that Adesina said that Buhari opted for the rendition of Kanu even though his administration could have assassinated him.

Adesina in his book titled, ‘Reflections of a Special Adviser, Media and Publicity (2015-2023),’ which was recently launched in Abuja, said Buhari chose to spare Kanu’s life when his government could have killed him.

In his reaction on X (formerly Twitter) on Wednesday, Ejimakor said that former President Buhari’s self-confession had proven the lingering notion that Kanu was never meant to get a fair trial in Nigeria.

Ejimakor on Wednesday asked President Bola Tinubu to wash his hands off Kanu’s case and release the IPOB leader from detention.

The lawyer wrote, “Buhari’s self-confessed plot to assassinate Mazi Nnamdi Kanu underscores the lingering notion that #MNK was never meant to get a fair trial in Nigeria.

“That’s why they resorted to extraordinary rendition & illegal detention.

“President Tinubu should wash his hands off & #FreeMNK.”
