My favourite African artistes right now are Asake, Tyla – Singer Tems

Grammy-winning singer Temilade Openiyi, also known as Tems, recent revealed her current favorite African artistes during an interview on the red carpet of Time100 Next Gala in New York.

At the prestigious event, the Oscar-nominated artiste was asked, “Who are your favorite African artists right now?” To which Tems replied, “My current favorite African artistes are Asake and Tyla.”

This acknowledgment of Asake and Tyla as her favorites comes as Tems herself was honored as one of the 2023 Time100 Next honorees, recognizing her as a next-generation influential voice.

It’s worth noting that Tems wasn’t the only Nigerian on the 2023 Time100 Next list; it also included Dr. Toyin Ajayi, the CEO of health start-up Cityblock Health, and tech founder Wemimo Abbey, who, along with co-founder Samir Goel, made the list for their startup.
