Peter Obi: I’m not desperate, in hurry to become Nigeria’s President

Peter Obi of Labour Party

Obi, who came third in the presidential election, according to results declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC spoke in Awka during a book launch in his honour.

The former Anambra Governor who is challenging the outcome of the presidential election, however, said he is confident that he will become president of Nigeria one day, but he was not in a hurry to achieve the dream.

The book titled Peter Obi: many voices, one perspective, Obi was written by some former commissioners of the Labour Party presidential candidate when he was governor, according to the Nation newspaper.

Obi also assured that he will accept the ruling of the court in the suit he filed to challenge the outcome of the 2023 presidential election.

“I’m in this journey anyone that thinks I’m on transit is joking. I must be the president of this country. If it’s not today, it will be tomorrow. I’m not in a hurry. I’m not desperate.

“We must fix this country. I have only one passport. if anyone thinks that Peter Obi will run away, is wasting his time.

“I’m in court now, whatever decision of the court, I’ll respect it. I’m not going to riot after which we’ll continue. But I know we’re committed to the destiny of this nation, when it’s God’s time it’ll happen,” Obi was reported as saying.

He added that he will always insist on what is right and will not use money to influence the process.

“When I was impeached as governor, people asked me to do this and that, I said no. I won’t give money to do the wrong thing,” he said while noting that he has never met Mahoud Yakubu, since he became the head of INEC, though he has been together with him as the chairman in a committee.

“If he wants to do what is wrong, no problem. One day, this thing we are doing in this country will consume all of us.

He also told his supporters, popularly known as OBIdients that his approach to issues was a sign of discipline and responsibility and the way to go.

“We’re trying to build a new Nigeria and that new Nigeria must be ready to say sorry, even if they are right. We need to start thinking about what are we going to do to have a better country”.

Speaking at the occasion, Obi of Onitsha and Anambra State Traditional Rulers Council, Alfred Nnaemeka Achebe, said described Obi as a man of destiny.

He noted that Obi’s progress in life reflects the hand of God upon him.
Speaking on the book, the Lead Editor, Prof. Chinyere Stella Okunna said it captured everything about Peter Obi.

According to her, Nigeria will be richly blessed if Obi becomes President.
