Digital Literacy: NITDA commits to training of police officers

Mr Kashifu Inuwa, Director-General of the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), has reiterated the agency’s commitment to train and re-train officers of the Nigeria Police Force for a digitally literate workforce.

Inuwa, in a statement by Mrs Hadiza Umar, Head of Corporate Affairs and External Relations, made the commitment at the opening ceremony of a five-day capacity building programme for officers of the NPF in Gombe.

Represented by Director, Zonal Office Directorate, Mr. Babajide Ajayi, Inuwa said the NPF was one of the most crucial security arms of government that needed the agency’s collaboration to achieve a collective mandate for the growth and development of the country.

He said emerging technologies were changing the mode of operations around the world, making it highly digitalised and competitive, paving a way for the Fourth Industrial Revolution.

He said that digitisation had transformed several government sectors, including the security formation, by adapting to the use of IT and network infrastructure in its operations and correspondences, making work faster and saving costs for the government.

”The training and re-training of the Nigeria Police Force personnel is a priority of NITDA.

“We will be delighted to partner with the Force as they advance into having a digitally literate workforce that can use the computer for promotion and examinations.”

Explaining the role of NITDA in ensuring that Nigeria becomes a digital country, Inuwa said the agency’s Strategic Roadmap and Action Plan (SRAP 2021—2024), with seven pillars was crafted in accordance with the current aspirations of the Federal Government.

He mentioned that the pillars included Developmental Regulation, Digital Literacy and Skills, Digital Innovation and Entrepreneurship, promotion of Indigenous Content Digital Transformation, Cybersecurity and Emerging Technologies.

Inuwa applauded the NPF for its relentless efforts in protecting lives and properties, rendering advisory security tips and tackling criminal activities across the country to make life better for citizens.

The Commissioner of Police, Gombe State Command, Ishola Babaita, represented by Assistant Commissioner of Police, Kabir Abdu, stated that the programme was a good initiative that would help in promoting examinations of officers and changing the Force’s operations.

He urged participants to be focused by putting into practice everything they would learn from the training for a better chance.

He also commended NITDA for its diverse interventions, programme and projects across the country, stating that it was yielding positive results.

He encouraged the agency to be consistent in deepening Information Technology across the country.  Credit; NAN
