Mines Ministry orders dredging coy to remobilise to Lagasa site

The Ministry of Mines and Steel Development (Mines Inspectorate Department) has directed Messrs Dilly Motors Ltd., to remobilise for the reopening of the dredging site at Lagasa community, Ibeju Lekki, Lagos.

The directive is contained in a statement signed by Mr Okhuoya Onah, Federal Mines Officer, Lagos State, on Wednesday in Lagos.

Onah said that the ministry was also directing Simtech Nigeria Ltd., which was in a joint venture with Jummytex Nigeria Ltd., to relocate their operations to their title area as defined by the Mining Cadastre Office.

Simtech Nigeria Ltd., and Jummytex Nigeria Ltd., are operating on Burrow Pits and stockpiling points.

He said: “Be informed that the area in which Messrs Dilly Motors Ltd. is having its Burrow pit and the stockpiling point is within its title area as defined by the Mining Cadastre Office’’.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that some members of the Lagasa community on April 20, protested the continuing dredging by Messrs Dilly Motors at the Lagasa community.

The community alleged that Dilly Motors had no genuine consent from the Baale to the site.

However, the Chairman, of Dilly Motors, Mr Okwudili Umenyiora, refuted the claims, backing his arguments with documents signed by the Baale of Lagasa community, Chief Amusa Ajoro.

Ajoro, who corroborated Umenyiora’s statement said that Dilly Motors had the genuine consent to work at the dredging site.

He, therefore, urged Dilly Motors to go about its lawful business without fear or favour.
