The National Economic Council (NEC) chaired by Vice President Yemi Osinabjo, approved a memorandum on the 2022 finance bill.
The NEC emergency virtual meeting was held from the Presidential Village, Abuja, on Tuesday.
Laolu Akande, Senior Special Assistant to the President for Media and Advertising, Office of the Vice President, in a statement, said that the bill was brought to the council by the Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Zainab Ahmed.
Ms Ahmed told the NEC that the proposed bill had to be passed along with the 2022 budget.
According to the minister, some of the proposed legislative changes include domestic revenue mobilization, closing tax loopholes, public finance management and tax administration reforms, as well as international taxation issues.
He added that some of the principles of the Finance Bill 2022 were to guarantee fiscal equity, avoid double taxation and support companies, especially Micro Small and Medium Enterprises, MSMEs.
She said the NEC approved the bill subject to some comments.
