Kano, Lagos demand a 1% increase in revenue allocation

Kano State Governor Abdullahi Ganduje says Kano and Lagos States are demanding 1 per cent in the new nation’s revenue allocation formula.

The lawsuit is contained in a statement signed by the chief press secretary, CPS, to the governor, Abba Anwar, issued Tuesday in Kano.

Anwar said that Ganduje exposed the case when his Lagos State counterpart, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, paid a visit of condolence for the death of Aliko Dangote’s brother, Sani Dangote.

He quoted Mr Ganduje as saying, “Looking at the population sizes of Kano and Lagos states and other similarities of megacities, both states require 1 per cent in the new nation’s income allocation formula. We already did our introductions. “

He noted that the two states were fortunate to have the largest number of members of the House of Representatives in the country.

Mr Ganduje noted that the states of Kano and Lagos have 24 legislators, each, in the Green Chamber.

In the statement, Anwar said that Governor Sanwo-Olu revealed that both states were megacities.

“Although Lagos is the most populous city in Nigeria and West Africa, Kano is second only to Lagos.

“We have similarities and we also have some problems.

“Population management problem, the problem of providing social services to people, and it is not possible to determine who will use their facilities, their services because people are entering our cities for almost 24 hours.

“Every second, people enter the two cities of Kano and Lagos, and you have no control over that. They must also obtain security services.

“Since there is now an attempt to revise the income formula in Nigeria, Lagos and Kano are demanding 1 per cent.

“That will allow us to take care of the circumstances of megacities,” said the governor.
