Bank employee faces N2.1m theft charge in Lagos

An employee of a microfinance bank, Titilayo Bolude, was arraigned on Thursday in a district court in Ejigbo, Lagos, for allegedly stealing N2.1 million from the bank’s customers.

Ms Bolude, 40, whose residential address was not provided, is on trial on two counts of conspiracy and theft.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the two charges brought against her by the police.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Inspector NA Simon, told the court that the accused and others, in general, committed the offences in July in Mercy Plaza, Olugbede, Egbeda, Idimu, Lagos.

He said that the accused had stolen the money belonging to Rimasokazine Women Empowerment Initiative, represented by a certain Nkama Chinedu.

According to the prosecutor, the defendant introduced herself as a member of the empowerment initiative and stole the money.

He said the alleged offences violated Articles 287 (7) and 411 of Lagos State Criminal Law, 2015.

The magistrate, AS Okubule, granted the defendant a bond in the amount of N500,000 with two bonds of an equivalent amount.

It ordered that sureties must be gainfully employed and show proof of payment of tax to the Lagos State government.

Ms Okubule adjourned the case until December 13 for mention. (NAN)
