TETFund sponsors 762 scholars with N3bn

Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund ) said it has spent over N3 billion to sponsor 762 scholars in four tertiary institutions in Gombe to further their studies in and outside the country.

The Director of Academic Staff Training Development, TETFund, Malam Muhammad Sulaiman stated this in Gombe during a hearing at the Gombe State University on the utilization of staff intervention programme organised by TETFund.

He said the institution that benefitted from the grant were Federal University Kashere , Gombe State University , Federal College of Education Technical Gombe, and College of Education Billiri.

He said before the introduction of the sponsorship, only 40 per cent of Nigerian lecturers had Master’s degrees and PhD, but with the introduction of the intervention, the percentage increased to 90.
He said the investment had impacted positively in the education sector because it changed the narrative.
Earlier, Chairman Board of Trustees TETfund, Alhaji Kashim Imam said in ten years the Fund had spent over 160 billion for the training of 30 thousand scholars in various tertiary institutions across the country.
He said the intervention was made possible due to the support it had been receiving from the Federal Government.
Alhaji Kashim Imam revealed that the TETfund would now concentrate on three critical areas for intervention in tertiary institutions.
According to him, the areas include construction of additional hostels, provision of ICT, and power supply.
In his welcome address the Vice-Chancellor, Gombe State University, Professor Aliyu El-Nafatay appreciated the various intervention in the university being carried out by the TETfund.
Professor Aliyu El-Nafatay who was represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Professor Mahmoud Umar said the institution was up to date in terms of provision of equipment and manpower as well as in the area of training and development of staff. (Radionigeria)
