MTN has yet to renew its Universal Access Service (UASL) license, the Nigeria Communications Commission (NCC) has said.
This is contained in a statement by Dr Ikechukwu Adinde, Director of Public Affairs, NCC, in Abuja.
“NCC’s attention is drawn to an online media publication titled,“ Government Renews MTN Nigeria License Amid 20 Years of GSM Phones.
“The publication indicated that MTN’s mobile operating license had been renewed by the Commission for a further ten-year term.
The online publication which cited the NCC regulatory documents as the source said that MTN Nigeria, the country’s largest mobile network operator (MNO), has obtained regulatory approval to renew its operating license for 10 additional years from September 31. 1, 2021.
The Commission said that although MTN Nigeria has requested the renewal of UASL, the request has not yet been approved as it is still undergoing the required regulatory processes.
“This statement is issued to guide our general stakeholders,” the NCC said. (NAN)
