ICAN Abuja inaugurates new excos

The Nigeria Institute of Chartered Accountants (ICAN) Abuja and District Society on Saturday in Abuja inaugurated its new executive committee with Alhaji Abdulrasheed Balogun becoming its 11th president.

The Nigeria News Agency (NAN) reports that the 14-member committee is expected to lead the company from 2021 to 2022.

Speaking on his inauguration, Balogun said that under his leadership, the district will ensure that young students are encouraged to pursue careers in accounting for the country’s economic growth.

“Another project dear to our district is the acquisition of buses to facilitate the mobility of members, especially when implementing our highly regarded ‘catch them young’ program designed for our younger generation, to encourage them to embrace accounting as a career.

“This project is one of the major mandates of our great institute to strategically increase its membership through identifiable talents among young students.

“This project, however, requires constant visits and collaboration with selected secondary schools and higher education institutions to sensitize and educate their students on the need to study accounting and build a career there,” he said. he declares.

According to him, the district also intends to introduce an accounting week to advance the public-private partnership through educational programs such as quizzes and debate contests.

He noted that job creation, wealth creation, economic empowerment and poverty reduction would remain a cardinal goals of the district.

Ms Comfort Eyitayo, President of ICAN, tasked the new executive committee to positively contribute to the accounting profession in the country.

“The efforts of the ICAN District Societies to promote accuracy and integrity would have a positive impact on the economy as a whole.

“The difficult situation the country currently faces offers leaders with a clear vision the opportunity to show their innate abilities, overcome challenges and deliver results.

“The coronavirus pandemic has negatively impacted the revenue generation potential and opportunities of most organizations, whether in the public or private sector.

“As economies and businesses gradually recover from the pandemic, accountants would play a pivotal role on the path to recovery and building more resilient economies,” she said.

Ms Bosede Ikhanoba, outgoing president of ICAN Abuja and District Society, urged the new executive committee to lead the district with integrity and public trust.

NAN reports that the event, which brought together physical and virtual participants, also featured the public presentation of a book entitled: “Microfinance Model for Entrepreneurial Development” written by Alhaji Abdulrasheed Balogun. (NAN)
