First Bank of Nigeria Ltd promoted 1,179 employees to new grades as part of the year-end assessment results, being part of its system to motivate its staffers.
Dr Adesola Adeduntan, CEO, FirstBank, who revealed in a statement on Thursday, said the promotion exercise was a demonstration of the bank’s commitment to empowering its employees and boosting productivity against all odds.
He said that the resilience, enduring performance and growth of FirstBank over the past 127 years was in large part due to the efforts of employees.
“Promotion is one of the many incentives we use to reward our employees and stimulate their passion as they work towards achieving their individual career goals as well as the strategic goals of the bank.
“In this regard, the promotions serve as a special thank you to our employees who have worked diligently with dedication throughout the unprecedented period of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“As a bank, we are committed to training and retaining the best talent motivated to demonstrate and live our core values of entrepreneurship, professionalism, innovation and customer orientation.
“FirstBank has a clearly defined career and talent development program that meets the leadership development needs of employees at all levels.
“These include the Senior Management Development Program (SMDP), Leadership Acceleration Program (LAP) and the FirstBank Management Associates Program (FMAP),” he said.
Adeduntan said the SMDP was the bank’s intensive modular program for a select group of senior and senior executives who were proven leaders in their respective roles and who had been identified as central to the bank’s succession plan. .
He said the bank, since its inaugural edition in 2017, had graduated 52 senior executives through the program.
“The LAP has been specially designed to instil critical leadership and change agents within the middle management staff (Assistant Manager – Manager Grade) of the bank.
“The program is an intensive skills development program structured to improve the core leadership and business skills of our team leaders and functional leaders.
“These leaders will, in turn, lead and champion the core of transformation and innovation, providing the bank with a lasting drive to ensure superior performance and a talent pool for change agents.”
“A total of 56 cohorts have graduated from the program in the past 18 months and currently hold various executive positions within the bank.
“FMAP is a 24-month accelerated comprehensive development program for young, dynamic, motivated and highly motivated individuals who have the right skills and excellent leadership potential among junior and entry-level employees.
“The program is also open to non-FirstBank employees who meet the selection criteria. The program started in 2018, ”he said.
