Four information you mustn’t send through your email

Due to its instant delivery nature, many people are often tempted to use electronic mail commonly known as e-mail to send just any information ranging from official letters, informal letters to sensitive personal information. This is borne out of the fact that many believe is not just one of the fastest means of sending information, it is also the safest way of getting across.

However, a lot of people have had their fingers burnt for sending their vital information through an e-mail. Hackers and fraudsters have fed fat by gaining access to their e-mail, making them fall victims to identity-related crime.

In the light of this, we shall be looking at some information you should never send through email no matter how urgent it may be. Some of the information you should never transmit through e-mail include:

  1. Your credit/debit card information

This is an era of e-commerce and online shopping. Many people make the mistake of sending their credit/debit cards details using e-mail. Though the use of credit cards is not a common practice here, if your debit cards which are commonly used here fall into the wrong hands, it could be seriously hurting as well. In the first place, there is too much malware out there for this to be a safe practice. Don’t send this information via email or any other electronic means that is not secure.

  1. Your security detail

One of the information you must guard jealously is your security detail, especially in this period, the crime rate is not on the rise. You cannot tell of those who may lay hands on it to rob or defraud you. So, don’t send your security detail using electronic means.

  1. A copy of your driver’s license

You have to be mindful that swindlers are not big on in-person transactions, but they are very good at waggling their way through security protocols. Once they have enough other pieces of your personal information to convince you they are an official organization, they can dupe you into sending your photo ID — or steal it from someplace you do business — they can do a lot of damage. So, do everything to ensure that don’t fall victims.

  1. Your PIN codes or passwords

You are often advised not to share your pin codes or passwords. And the truth still remains you must never be shared period! But if you must share it with somebody close, it is advisable you do so using a phone where somebody else cannot eavesdrop. There is too many malware around now that it is very risky to transmit your pin codes or password through an electronic medium.

While all of this may sound like common sense, the myriad mistakes people make on a daily basis is beyond the ken of understanding. The key to staying safe is staying vigilant. To be saved from the hands of fraudsters, who are all over the place, ensure you always practice the three Ms: Minimize your exposure, monitor your accounts and manage the damage the minute you discover a problem.

It may be difficult to completely prevent identity-related crime, but you should not make yourself easy prey to fraudsters.
