Platinum bank appoints Abubakar Dikko as board chairman

Platinum Mortgage Bank has appointed Mohammed Dikko Abubakar, a former inspector-general of police (IGP), as its new board chairman.

In a statement by Festus Adebayo, the bank’s media adviser, Abubakar has now been saddled with the responsibility of ensuring improved performance of all members of the board.

Adebayo described the former IGP as a “versatile and dynamic leader with a great sense of responsibility”.

“The Platinum Mortgage Bank Limited is pleased to announce its recent appointment of Mohammed Dikko Abubakar, CFR, FCE, FCPA, FCAI, FIIPS, NPM, PSC, MNI (rtd) as the new board chairman of the organisation,” the media manager said.

“By this appointment, MD Abubakar is saddled with the responsibility of providing leadership to the board, taking responsibility for the board’s composition and development, ensuring proper information for the board, planning and conducting board meetings effectively, getting all directors involved in the board’s work, ensuring the board focuses on its key tasks, engaging the board in assessing and improving its performance, overseeing the induction and development of directors and supporting the chief executive officer/MD.”

Born on May 5, 1960, Abubakar had his early education at Gusau township primary school, Zamfara state. He proceeded to Government Secondary School, Maru, where he obtained his senior school certificate.

He went on to obtain a diploma in criminal justice administration from the University of Lagos, and an advanced diploma in public administration from Sokoto State Polytechnic.

Abubakar also has an advanced diploma in law enforcement administration from the University of Lagos and a Masters in Business Administration (MBA) in marketing and business strategy from Hult International Business School in Boston, US.

He enlisted into the Nigeria police force in 1976 and rose through the ranks to become the 16th IGP in 2012. Abubakar retired in 2014.

The former IGP was the pioneer chairman of the NPF pension board between 2014 and 2018.
