Jobberman acquires top competitor in undisclosed deal

Jobberman, Nigerian-based recruitment firm, has announced today that it has acquired top competitor Ngcareers, founded by Andrew Eze and Paul Eze.

The deal, which is a full acquisition, will see Jobberman’s parent company, ROAM Africa (Ringier One Africa Media), consolidate its dominance on the Nigerian career marketplace space.

In 2015, before its merger with Ringier Africa, One Africa Media (OAM) acquired a 100% stake in Jobberman, a six-year-old startup at the time while Jobberman co-founders Ayodeji Adewunmi, Opeyemi Awoyemi, and Olalekan Olude, retained active roles in the company before leaving to pursue other interests down the line.

One Africa Media’s merger with Ringier Africa saw its portfolio businesses like Cheki, Private Property Nigeria, fused under the same umbrella (ROAM Africa) with Ringier Africa’s businesses such as ZoomTanzania and Qefira.

Both launched in 2009, Jobberman and NGCareers have helped bridge the unemployment gap that exists in the Nigerian workforce by connecting job seekers to employers. According to Hilda Kabushenga Kragha, CEO of Jobberman Nigeria, this deal will further drive both company’s interests in the long run.

“Ngcareers is one of the top job portals in Nigeria. With this acquisition, we have the opportunity to widen our scope in Nigeria and show our long-term commitment to the market. It will give us a stronger, bigger platform and enable us to create better digital services for our customers,” he said.

Following the completion of the deal, the pair will continue as independent companies under parent company, ROAM Africa, but the company says the goal is for both entities to become Jobberman.com.
