Group calls for incorporation of digital learning into Nigeria’s educational structure

Following the impact of coronavirus on the Nigerian education system, Liberty Career Academy, LCA, a leading social enterprise in Nigeria, has called for the incorporation of digital learning into the Nigerian educational structure.

Making this call in a press release, the group’s Executive Director, Gbenga Rufai pointed out that the pandemic has shown Nigerian that its educational system cannot survive in the face of the crisis except the gaps in policy and administration are fixed.

Rufai, who likened the challenge rocking the Nigerian educational system to an extended holiday since schools were shut down since March, said that the real problem facing the Nigerian educational system is the inability of the Nigerian child to receive the needed education that will enable him to compete favourably on the international scene.

Stressing the need for digitalizing the country’s education system, Rufai explained that being technology savvy was needed to thrive in the 21st century.

“Being technology savvy is important for success in the 21st century and what better way to acquire such skills than through early introduction to technology-driven education,” He said.

Further listing lack of infrastructure as the main impediment to digital learning, Rufai, however, called for the establishment of a specific digital learning road map.

“A non-negotiable option that is currently before the Nigerian educational system is the digitization of learning processes. This calls for the establishment of a specific digital learning road map that clearly identifies the key players and necessary factors that will make the deployment of e-learning, success in the Nigerian educational system.

“The report clearly argues that this will not be possible without reviewing existing laws and policies that currently impede the incorporation of digital learning into our educational structure, especially at the grassroots level,” he said.
